Today, I stumbled across the quote shown in the photo above posted by a popular Facebook Page, “World Quotes Den.”

I must admit that although I’ve had some bad days and crossed paths with some really ugly people, I don’t share the sentiments expressed in the post above. I’ve had my share of challenges, but I’ve also had some great days. In my late thirties, I still enjoy perfect health – partly because I eat the right foods and exercise.

Nevertheless, the quote above caused me to think back, and it dawned upon my consciousness that this is indeed the sad reality of most humans on earth. In just 24 hours, the quote attracted more than 34,000 likes, 6000 heart reactions, and 17,000 tears. Further, it was shared over 19,000 times and got over 1000 comments most of which are in agreement with the sentiments expressed in it. Indeed, our world seems to be a troubled place.

But what is more worrying is the comments left under the post – which express a worrying state of affairs for humans on earth. Here are just a few.

And there are hundreds more similar comments agreeing with the sentiments. About 5 percent of the comments try to inject a positive attitude towards life.

This quote and this Facebook Post made me reflect on the world we are living in. For many people, it is a troubled place that many compare to hell. Yes, there are a handful of people who are living a dream, but even those sometimes fall prey to the traps of the world. We live in a world of deceit, evil people, and greed. Every year, an estimated 800,000 people commit suicide around the world. But what’s equally confusing, is the rate at which people multiply and have babies. Despite their negative experiences, humans continue to bring more babies into the world to experience the same world they regret living in, and call it a “blessing” with great joy. I must say that humans never cease to confuse me.
